What is Dry Needling?

A relative new-comer in physiotherapy techniques is the use of acupuncture needles as an adjunct to other manual therapy techniques. Its aim is to aide in returning full range of motion, accurately stimulate and release fascial and neural tension. Dry needling is a gentle technique that is usually pain-free and has less post treatment soreness than traditional heavy manual therapy techniques.

If we think Dry needling is an appropriate technique for you we will discuss this during your treatment, please tell us if you seriously don't like needles and we will happily apply other techniques.

It is called Dry Needling is 2-fold. Firstly, it is because the needle is not hollow, it is solid and hence nothing can be injected with these needles. Secondly, the title “Acupuncturist” is a protected title that can only be used by people who have been trained in Traditional Chinese medicine and are registered Acupuncturists.

For a Physiotherapist to perform dry needling they must have undertaken training in the techniques and have passed the courses to perform the treatment technique.
